Connecticut’s marriage equality lawsuit, Kerrigan and Mock et al v. the Connecticut Department of Public Health, was filed in August 2004 on behalf of eight loving, committed, Connecticut same-sex couples who sought marriage licenses, and were denied the right to marry in Madison, CT. Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), in collaboration with attorneys Maureen Murphy of Murphy, Murphy & Nugent in New Haven, Ken Bartshi of Horton, Shields, & Knox in Hartford, and Michelle Redman of the ACLU of CT, filed the case. The case was argued before the CT Supreme Court on May 14, 2007, and on October 10, 2008 the Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to deny marriage rights to same-sex couples. Same-sex couples began to legally marry in CT on November 12, 2008.
